Just this year alone, three international law firms have announced new office launches in the Chinese city of Shenzhen. This comes as other top-tier Chinese cities like Shanghai have fallen out of favor, with at least three other foreign firms conceding a scaling down of their presence there.

The latest firm to jump onto the Shenzhen bandwagon is Bird & Bird, which said in a statement last month that Shenzhen was “home to China’s leading technology and life sciences companies,” and described the office as a “natural next step for the firm as part of its Greater China growth strategy.”
