After 36 years as a judge, 17 of them as the chief justice of Canada, Beverley McLachlin has probably seen and heard everything. So it made perfect sense to her that after retiring from the Supreme Court of Canada, she'd publish a crime thriller.

When she released her first novel, "Full Disclosure," in 2018, she'd barely been off the bench for six months. Her tale of a young criminal defense attorney created a lot of buzz (and went on to become a best-seller) but there were some in the legal profession who questioned the ethics of a distinguished jurist writing a crime novel.
