A lawyer and former Olympic synchronized swimmer will be Canada’s first sport integrity commissioner, overseeing independent investigations into allegations of abuse and mistreatment of athletes at a time when many such cases are coming to light.

Sarah-Eve Pelletier will take up her new post in May. She is a member of the bar in the province of Quebec and an accredited civil mediator. She is a former deputy general counsel at the Canadian Olympic Committee and is currently its director of sport business and sustainability, where she oversees a wide array of portfolios, including athlete marketing and Olympian legacy, Games business strategy and operations, according to the statement announcing her appointment.
