Trans is an umbrella term for people whose gender-identity differs from what is typically associated with that they were assigned at birth. People under the trans umbrella may describe themselves using one or more of a variety of terms – including transgender, transsexual and non-binary.

Even as someone who does a lot on diversity and inclusion and has done for many years, I have sometimes struggled to understand what is meant by ‘trans inclusion’ and how this might manifest itself. Until really quite recently, I didn’t have any friends or colleagues who openly-identified as trans, and I have to admit to finding this landscape complex and, at times, daunting to navigate.
