The Law Society of England and Wales has launched a redundancy consultation affecting 45 roles, including its entire web team.

A spokesperson for the membership body said in a statement that the consultation is “about how we deliver a number of functions within the Law Society”.

The announcement comes as the legal industry continues to grapple with the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, leading several organisations across the sector, including law firms, to make staff redundant.

The spokesperson continued: “For the past three years the Law Society has been on a journey of change and transformation. This has been so we can respond more effectively to what our members tell us about the kinds of support they need.”

The person added that the organisation is going to attempt to mitigate possible job losses by proposing 47 new roles as part of a restructuring, which it is yet to confirm.

In October, Freeths cut 66 roles, including both fee-earners and support staff, across all of its 13 U.K. offices. In the same month, Ince announced that it had cut 50 staff members in its latest cost-cutting drive.

Others to have confirmed redundancy measures include Addleshaw Goddard, which is looking to make 22 people redundant in its real estate team, and Irwin Mitchell which is looking to cut over 100 employees.
