LSO leader to launch in Shenzhen, Beijing, Silicon Valley and Milan over two years
CPA Global is gearing up to launch new offices in mainland China and the US as part of a rapid expansion plan, following its $1.5bn (£941m) acquisition by private equity house Cinven in March.
The legal services outsourcer (LSO) is set to open its first Chinese office in Shenzhen (pictured) in the coming months, with another office launch in Silicon Valley also planned to go live in January.
The news comes as part of a wider growth strategy, which is also expected to include launches in Beijing and Milan. Beijing is slated to open in the next 12 months and Milan within the next two years.
All of the new offices will focus on the intellectual property (IP) sector, which makes up around 95% of CPA's business. CPA's existing client roster includes Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Nestle and chemical company DuPont.
CPA is looking to target Chinese corporates and law firms operating internationally, as well as overseas corporates and law firms requiring IP management services in China with its two new Asian offices.
Meanwhile, an office in Silicon Valley will give CPA a base in the IP hub of the US, while Milan will add to its existing European offices in the UK, France, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and Jersey.
CPA chief executive Peter Sewell said: "We keep finding more and more opportunities for growth made possible by the investment support being provided by Cinven.
"We have a big focus in the Asia-Pacific region, which is particularly growing and looks set to continue to grow in our space over the next five to 10 years.
"We are also accompanying this expansion internationally with an increase in the number and type of products that we're offering."
In recent years, CPA has expanded beyond its traditional patent and trademark renewals business into IP management software, patent search, and patent analytics and valuation.
The news follows the hire of CPA's first-ever GC, with Ruth Daniels joining CPA in September from Ancestry.com.
