Much has been made of the changes that will affect the 10 accession states in May next year. While the potential impact on their legal markets has generated interest, firms in Eastern Europe have been concentrating on the competition that is already in the market.

Poland’s Wardynski & Partners appears to have weathered the economic downturn better than the Anglo-US firms in its home market, a trend that is mirrored across Europe. With transactional work in the doldrums, the firm has been living off litigation debt restructuring and bankruptcy litigation, and taking advantage of its deeper local ties.
