German firm Hengeler Mueller Weitzel Wirtz was the most successful European M&A firm last year, according to recently released figures.

Data provided by mergermarket.com revealed that Hengeler, Slaughter and May’s Germany ally, advised on 40 M&A deals worth £96bn in 2000. It was also the only European-based firm to enter the top 10 for overall value of M&A deals. In 2000, Hengeler advised on
several high-profile deals including advising Deutsche Telekom on its dm100bn (£33bn) acquisition of Voicestream Wireless Corp.
