Despite defense doubts about health concerns that could impact his ability to testify, former National Rifle Association CEO and Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre took the stand Friday in the civil corruption case brought against him by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

LaPierre, who announced he would step down from his longtime role on the eve of trial due to health issues, is accused of using the nonprofit’s funds to bankroll lavish vacations for himself and his family.
