Just north of New York City is the setting for a court battle involving a Republican attorney who’s seeking inclusion on the Nov. 7 ballot for Ramapo town justice—but faces an uphill battle because local Democrats say the seat on the bench no longer exists.

The would-be GOP candidate, Rockland County estate and bankruptcy lawyer Michael Koplen, is representing himself in two separate cases in state Supreme Court.
