Despite massive layoffs in the tech industry and a slight decrease in recruiting overall, the legal hiring market remains robust as companies stay cautiously optimistic, legal recruiters and in-house experts say, with a number of startups hiring their first general counsel.

Newer, smaller tech companies see value in adding a GC to the roster in order to curtail outside legal expenses. And even though tech giants Amazon and Meta are among companies that recently halted legal hiring sprees in response to economic concerns, they admit that they will still need attorneys with specialized skills to guide them through the tough regulatory road ahead.
