A historic week of belt-tightening in the tech industry is already translating into layoffs of attorneys at tech companies, and the numbers of lawyer cuts is sure to grow as more companies notify affected workers.

“A truly sad day for many of us at Stripe in light of the #layoffs that blasted through overnight … and an unsatisfying way for my nearly 3 year tenure to come to an end!” Alexandra Townsley, legal counsel for the payments platform Stripe, wrote on LinkedIn early Friday morning.
