In a matter of first impression, the Maryland Appellate Court reinstated a medical malpractice suit against a skilled nursing facility in Baltimore Wednesday, finding the lower court erroneously held that a registered nurse with relevant experience was not qualified to provide an expert opinion on prevention and treatment of bed sores.

On appeal from the Baltimore City Circuit Court, the three-judge panel sided with the plaintiff, Felicia Robinson, in her medical malpractice suit against Canton Harbor Healthcare Center, concluding nurses with appropriate education and experience should not be not barred from serving as proximate cause experts.
