European Legal Team of the Year: Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton
Bech-Bruun came within a whisker of taking this award due to a cutting-edge mandate, but it was Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton's ground-breaking role advising Greece on its high-stakes debt restructuring that won the day. Since the Greek debt crisis broke in spring 2010, the firm has been consulted by a number of private and official institutions. Since July 2011 a Cleary team spanning eight offices has acted as international counsel to Greece on legal aspects of its indebtedness, culminating in a liability management transaction, known as a PSI, announced in February this year.
