Harbottle & Lewis has hit back at criticism of its role in the phone-hacking scandal at now defunct tabloid the News of the World (NoW) in written evidence to the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee.

The West End firm, which has seen its role reviewing a cache of emails for News International in 2007 heavily criticised in the media and in Parliament, defended its position in evidence published on a Parliamentary website yesterday (16 August) after a meeting of the Culture Committee. Evidence from News International’s former director of legal affairs Jon Chapman and former News International legal manager Tom Crone has also been published.
