Linklaters has secured its second US partner hire in less than a month, with the magic circle firm recruiting corporate partner Daniel Dufner from White & Case in New York.
Dufner has been a partner at White & Case since 2004 and has represented a range of clients on both public and private M&A matters.
The hire takes the number of partners in Linklaters New York corporate practice to seven.
Dufner’s recent deals include advising WellPoint on Express Scripts’ $4.7bn (£3.1bn) acquisition of its pharmacy benefit management business, and the spin-off of EchoStar from a satellite TV, equipment sales and support company, DISH Network.
Before joining White & Case he worked as an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell.
Linklaters global head of corporate David Barnes said: “The addition of Dan will broaden and deepen the firm’s already robust US M&A practice. Dan is a high-quality lawyer, with solid deal experience, an international outlook and a proven ability to develop client relationships.”
The appointment is the latest in a number of partner hires for Linklaters in New York over the last year. In April it brought in highly-rated tax specialist Lewis Steinberg from UBS to serve as the co-head of its US practice. Steinberg was previously a partner with Cravath Swaine & Moore.
October saw the addition of Alberto Luzarraga from Shearman & Sterling for the firm’s corporate practice, while in August it brought in Jeffrey Schmidt, a former director of the Federal Trade Commission’s competition bureau.
Linklaters New York office currently houses 150 lawyers including 33 partners. The firm also has a further 70 US qualified lawyers based outside of the country including 20 partners.
