Stephenson Harwood has announced the results of its 2009 promotions round, with the firm making up two new partners.

Kamal Shah and Rovine Chandrasekera have both been promoted in the firm’s London office, with Shah made up in international arbitration and Chandrasekera promoted in the firm’s shipping litigation practice.

The promotions are effective as of 1 May and will bring the firm’s global partner headcount to 92.

As has been the case at many other City firms affected by the tough economic climate, the number of promotions at Stephenson Harwood is a reduction on 2008, when the firm made up four partners across its finance, corporate and shipping litigation practices.

Chief executive Sunil Gadhia (pictured) said: “Kamal and Rovine are exceptional lawyers and have worked extremely hard in their respective fields. They are highly talented individuals who have contributed significantly to the international development of the firm and have forged strong relationships with businesses in places such as Africa, India and the Middle East. I am delighted to welcome them to the partnership.”

The news follows yesterday’s (28 April) promotions announcement from Denton Wilde Sapte – another firm to see a 50% drop in new partners from 2008 levels.

Dentons made up six to its partnership, down from the 12 the previous year.
