Fasken Martineau has bolstered its London intellectual property (IP) practice with the hire of a partner from Simmons & Simmons.Jeremy Morton, who joined the Canada-based law firm's commercial IP group earlier this week (6 October), has a particular focus on the technology sector. He was with Simmons for 19 years and was made up to partner in 1998. The hire takes the number of partners in Fasken's London arm to 28, seven of whom work in the IP practice. Fasken's London office was launched in 2007 when the firm secured a merger with City boutique Stringer Saul. Since then it has made lateral hires including Thomas Wexler, who joined in May last year to launch a project finance practice in the office.Earlier this year it bolstered the practice with the hire of Steven Beharrell, who joined the firm as senior counsel having previously worked at firms including Dewey & LeBoeuf. Commenting on his move, Morton said: "Fasken is a firm that is going places and there are opportunities to build an excellent practice from a good platform."Norman Ziman, Fasken's managing partner, added: "The firm is delighted that Jeremy has agreed to join us to help us deliver our strategy of taking our commercial IP group to a higher level."Fasken has around 700 lawyers working across offices in Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Montreal, Quebec, New York and Johannesburg
