Winner: Tony Angel, Linklaters

By all accounts, Tony Angel was a first-class tax lawyer. But it is not for the quality of his tax advice that Linklaters’ managing partner was awarded this year’s City of London Law Society Lifetime Achievement Award. Having qualified as a solicitor at Linklaters in 1978, it took Angel just six years to become a partner, and a further 10 to become head of the tax department. He was appointed managing partner in 1998, having played an important role in the shaping of the firm’s international strategy.
