Despite ranking highly in the M&A league tables for Scandinavia, Norway’s law firms are frustrated at losing out on the lead roles in some private equity deals. Sophie Evans reports

Norway’s independent firms ranked highly in the M&A league tables this year, putting in performances that reflect the buoyant state of Norway’s energy-driven economy. According to the tables of independent firms compiled for Legal Week by Mergermarket, Norwegian firm Thommessen tops the Scandinavian league of deals completed between 1 October last year and 30 September, 2007, based on deal value. The firm advised on a total of 38 deals worth E28.6bn (£20.2bn) and came first of all the independent firms in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.
