The Legal Services Act became law last week (30 October) after the long-awaited legislation finally received Royal Assent. The Bill passed through Parliament following a tussle between the House of Commons and the House of Lords over details including requirements for the Lord Chancellor to consult the Lord Chief Justice over the make-up of the new-look Legal Services Board. Most of the new legislation is likely to come into effect in 2011.
