Glengarry Glen Ross (Apollo Theatre) makes an unusual choice for a West End show. It’s by David Mamet, whose Oleanna caused a stir in the 1990s. This was written in 1983 and is about a group of salesmen in Chicago selling worthless real estate to worthless clients. If you sell the most you get a Cadillac. If you don’t sell, you’re out. It’s a dog-eat-dog world, full of testosterone, power play and a really imaginative line in obscene invective. It’s not a play to take your sheltered maiden aunt to. Nor one to go to if you want romance or a feel-good factor.
