The Diary was recently dispatched on a covert operation to take some snaps for the Legal Week photo library. Covert, because the ultra-sensitivity of some City firms to having their picture taken reminds one of those tribes that believe taking a photograph of someone steals their soul. Not that that would be much of a problem for City lawyers.

Ashurst, Hammonds and (shock!) Slaughter and May were among the most camera-shy, with unblinking security personnel cunningly swamping LW snappers in reams of waivers and application forms before they could get off even a single shot.
