Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has bagged former European Commission (EC) director general for internal markets and services Alexander Schaub as counsel in its Brussels office. Schaub, who has also held the position of director general for competition at the EC, will join Freshfields on 1 February. Schaub recently retired after more than 30 years in a number of senior positions with the EC. He will work alongside Horst Guenter Krenzler, an ex-director general of external affairs at the EC.
