Following Reed Smith’s takeover of – sorry, merger with – Richards Butler, there have (unsurprisingly) been a few teething problems, not least with synchronising the two firms’ IT systems.

According to one legacy Richards Butler partner, the IT crowd battled day, night and weekend throughout the first week of the merger to eliminate any unforeseen technical glitches.

“They really worked hard and I have no doubt they’re a bit traumatised by it all,” the partner said admiringly. “In fact, now we’re part of a US firm, they’ll probably all get therapy.”

Now if only that pesky Hong Kong office could be integrated so easily…
