The Law Society squared up to the Government last week as Chancery Lane delivered its closely-watched evidence to the parliamentary committee tasked with picking through the Legal Services Bill.

The hearing at the House of Lords on 8 June saw president Kevin Martin, vice president Fiona Woolf and director of strategic policy Russell Wallman outline their key findings. The trio warned the 12-member joint committee, chaired by former Beachcroft senior partner Lord Hunt of Wirral, about the importance of retaining an independent profession.
