If you ask a young solicitor what his or her career goal is, the majority will still say they want to be a partner. Many recognise the benefits of being exposed as a trainee to the fast-paced commercial and corporate finance firms in London and other major cities; while for others, culture, atmosphere, values or type of work are paramount for a satisfying career.
However, there is a growing trend to qualify and remain based in the City for a few years, before moving out to less relentlessly-pressured firms. There is a trend for fewer to choose to stay in the City and become a partner – for a number of reasons.
