Having grown up in Cornwall, it was probably no surprise to my friends that I chose to train in Bristol. But my choice was not determined entirely by my existing ties with the region. Before applying for my training contract I took a long, hard look at what the southwest had to offer – both in terms of work and lifestyle – and found that it offered distinct advantages over many other areas of the UK.

Not least, the quality of training available in the southwest is at least the equal of that on offer elsewhere. As a trainee, I was involved in every aspect of a deal from day one, not just those tasks deemed ‘suitable for a trainee’. I had early client contact, building both my confidence and clients’ confidence in me as a representative of the firm. This stood me in good stead to progress quickly in an environment every bit as demanding as I would have expected to experience in London.
