It was perhaps inevitable that Allen & Overy (A&O) and Clifford Chance (CC) would, at some point, move to the top of the debt capital markets league tables released last week. In many ways, it was surprising that the pair had trailed pacesetters Linklaters and Sidley Austin, which had held the top spots through 2005.

For the global Q4 tables, however, there was not much of a contest. A&O moved into pole position in the Thomson Financial international debt capital markets table for bank advice, one of the key rankings, beating former leader Linklaters by a significant margin.
