The UK legal profession is continuing to grow despite the transactional slowdown and cuts to legal aid, with more than 120,000 solicitors now on the Roll in England and Wales. Figures contained in the Law Society’s annual statistical report for 2004 show 121,165 solicitors are now on the Roll, an increase of 4.4% on the previous year.

Since 1974, the total solicitors holding practising certificates has risen by 236.7%, at an average annual rate of 4.1%.
