The provincial Bar presents a wonderful opportunity for those who are committed to pursuing a career outside London. It is very strong in parts, competing with London successfully in some practice areas, and producing over the years some truly outstanding barristers and judges.

Of course, there are many requirements to establish a successful career as a provincial barrister. So what are the qualities needed? I would start with commitment, hard work and intelligence, but would add business sense, efficiency, client and people skills, self-analysis, humility, and chambers which will help to manage your practice and career, not just let you get on with the job.
