Coudert Brothers’ French practice is in talks to split off from the firm’s Baker & McKenzie merger bid, with McDermott Will & Emery emerging as a contender to take on the eight-partner Paris practice.

McDermott partners have confirmed that the firm is holding discussions with the 40-lawyer Paris office, which could give the Chicago leader its first foothold in France.
