Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft’s London office has lost capital markets partner Jerry De Melo, who left the firm last week to become in-house counsel and finance director to the asset-backed structured finance team at hedge fund Cheyne Capital.

De Melo started in the newly-created role on 18 April and will act as the company’s only in-house lawyer. His departure comes a month after the US firm hired two capital markets partners in the space of a week, taking Norton Rose partner Christian Parker and Allen & Overy partner Angus Duncan. The firm now has four capital markets partners in London. De Melo, who became a partner in Cadwalader’s City arm in 2001, told Legal Week: “Cadwalader is a great firm but opportunities like these do not come along very often. I am looking forward to working with [Cadwalader] going forward.”
