Twelve months ago, it was challenging for the management board of Russell Jones & Walker (RJW) to seriously consider implementing a converged infrastructure for carriage of data and voice traffic across its network of offices.

A major strategic review was underway at the firm, which had resulted in a period of significant business restructuring. Against this background, the proposed investment in core IT infrastructure needed to do more than demonstrate a traditional return on investment. It needed to deliver rapid savings combined with additional functionality and efficiency in return for only modest investment.
