Heavyweight New York firms Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz have won lucrative lead roles advising on the $11bn (£5.94bn) merger between Sears Roebuck and Kmart – the largest retail M&A deal in US history.

The merger sees the creation of the third-largest retailer in the US, boasting approximately 3,500 outlets and annual revenues of around $55bn (£29.6bn). The merged entity will be called Sears Holdings although stores will continue to operate under their existing brand names.
