The creation of a single framework for lawyers’ insurance cover across Europe took a step forward last month with the agreement from the Continent’s bars on the need for minimum standards.

A meeting on 30 January of bar representatives, held by the Council of Bars and Law Societies of the European Union (CCBE), won unanimous backing in principle for a project to forge cross-border standards. The next step will be to address the controversial issue of minimum cover for lawyers’ practices across the region.
