Bond Pearce’s announcement in September this year that it had opened a London office might have surprised some. But for close watchers of the southwest firm, it merely marked another chapter in the firm’s remarkable recent development.

In the past five years the firm has gone from being a small, Plymouth-based outfit with modest-sized offices in Exeter and Southampton to being one of the biggest and most successful firms in the southwest, with 62 partners and more than 600 staff. It has done so through a combination of mergers, judicious lateral hires and sheer ambition, especially in building up niche specialisms.
