Northern Irish companies have been slow to set up legal departments, with only a fraction of companies boasting corporate counsel. The fact that the area has few PLCs is one contributory factor, while most local Northern Irish companies are not of sufficient size to merit legal departments. However, locals predict that this fledgling community will continue to expand, reflecting the economic growth of the locality.
Jenny Ebbage, partner at Cleaver Fulton & Rankin, says that despite the low numbers of corporate counsel in Northern Ireland, she is working with more in the past two years than before.
