Five leading City firms have combined to seal the management buy-out of iconic toy retailer Hamleys, following its board’s acceptance last week (17 June) of a £47m cash bid from management backed by Baugur, the Icelandic corporate raider.

Allen & Overy corporate partners Pervez Akhtar and Alan Paul advised Baugur – which was making its first full-scale UK acquisition, following its unsuccessful attempt to buy Arcadia last year – with Travers Smith Braithwaite corporate partner Spencer Summerfield leading the team advising Hamleys’ management.
