The UK Government’s courts ministry, the Lord Chancellor’s Department (LCD), looks set to undergo its most important shake-up in recent history with the department set to be reshaped as a Ministry for Justice headed by a minister of cabinet rank.

As Legal Week Global went to press it had established that defence secretary and former LCD minister Geoff Hoon had been sounded out over heading up the new ministry, which would take on the criminal justice responsibilities of the Home Office, the UK’s internal affairs ministry.
