The recruitment market here can be divided into seven main tranches: the Leeds ‘big six’, mid tier firms, the other major cities, ‘high street’ firms, the large conveyancing operations, in-house and the locum market.

Each has its own dynamic and, to a certain extent, some are counter cyclical to each other – big six pain can be mid-tier gain. As such, it is a huge and diverse market underscored by the fundamental problem that there are not enough lawyers to go around. With this being the case relocators are in huge demand; the northern legal profession is a hungry animal which feeds on new talent coming to the region. While one might just expect this to be the case with those coming from City firms to larger commercial practices, it is as true for residential conveyancers and family locums.
