Chambers and other pupillage providers are set to be forced to advertise their pupillage vacancies “as widely as possible” in a bid to improve the Bar’s equal opportunities record.
The rule change, due to be finalised by the Bar Council’s education and training committee in March, will require chambers and other pupillage providers – such as the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and company legal departments – to, at the very least, advertise their vacancies on the website of the Bar Council’s clearing house, Olpas. Until now, pupillage providers have only been advised to advertise their vacancies under the Bar’s training code of conduct.
