“I did not get where I am today by being an attorney,” exclaimed the corporate counsel of a household name company to law students considering a career in business, “I have had to learn leadership and management skills as well.”

The corporate counsel was saying that lawyers undertaking management development and training in order to enhance their contribution would go far. Was he right? Is it important to invest in training attorneys to be better leaders and managers, or is it a waste of time?
