Lord PhillipsBy common consent, St Dunstan’s House, the building that houses the Commercial Court is a dump. The more moderate views describe the facilities as cramped; the more extreme as third world, and there are few that would not be glad to see the back of it.

St Dunstan’s, built in the 1960s, may post-date the adjacent Royal Courts of Justice (RCJ) by several decades, but there is little doubt that it is well past its sell-by date. The chorus of voices raised in recent months berating the facilities include the Lord Mayor of London, the Lord Chief Justice, the Master of the Rolls, the Bar Council and the Law Society. And, not least, the people most directly affected by it – the barristers who work there.
