PollutionOn 21 November, 2002, the Government of Canada released its Climate Change Plan. The Plan is billed as a made-in-Canada strategy to meet our Kyoto Protocol obligations. The Government remains determined to ratify Kyoto by the end of this year.

Canada’s obligation under the Kyoto Protocol is significant. We are bound to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to 6% below 1990 levels on average through the period between 2008 and 2012. This amounts to a reduction of 240 megatonnes (MT = one million tonnes) from current business projections for 2010.
