A Legal Week hack recently called up the Law Society’s switchboard and asked to be put through to the International Directorate (one of the few parts of the organisation to achieve any praise, incidentally).
The request was denied on the basis that the caller was not a solicitor.
Why? “Well, we have got to protect someone, haven’t we?” came the response.
