The International Bar Association (IBA) has joined a growing worldwide campaign to water down the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC’s) far-reaching blueprint for the regulation of lawyers.

The IBA has responded to draft SEC anti-fraud rules requiring lawyers to whistle-blow on their US-listed clients by contacting the SEC’s general counsel, Giovanni Prezioso, and calling on him to exempt non-US lawyers from the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
