The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) review of competitiveness in the professions has been overtaken by the Enron scandal, say in-house lawyers. But they welcome the pressure it has put on the Bar Council and the Law Society to ease restrictions on them.

The OFT’s review, reported in Legal Week (2 May), pressed for the acceptance of multi-disciplinary practices (MDPs). But Anthony Armitage, communications director of the Law Society’s Commerce & Industry Group, said: “We have had no feedback from our members on that at all. It is an irrelevance to us.”
