The first of May having come and gone, the question on every legal journalist’s lips is obviously: “How much cash has your firm made this year?”.
But, until LLPs come in, law firms are under no obligation to tell and if they do wish to say anything they can always, if they want to risk it, choose to tell a little white lie. Which is why it was particularly refreshing when The Diary rang up one rather garrulous managing partner to ask the question.
“Sorry, the books aren’t ready yet,” he replied. “We haven’t finished cooking them.”
