The Law Society has started moves to get its fee sharing reforms back on track after last month’s council decision to reject proposals to allow solicitors to share fees with non-solicitors or pay for referrals.

The decision was a major setback for the Law Society’s drive to liberalise its rules. And although the Council did agree in principle to back plans to allow employed lawyers to offer legal advice to the public, its rejection of the other planks of the reform package make it difficult to deliver even this element of the reforms.
